Under Source Water Assessment the report describes both: "the dolomite of the Silurian aquifer" and "the sandstone and dolomite of the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer." Here is the part worth understanding, and it is worth reading calmly. Per the 2023 report, the Silurian aquifer "was determined to be highly susceptible to contamination because the characteristics of the aquifer and overlying materials provide little protection from contamination at the land surface." The same report describes the Cambrian-Ordovician side as having low susceptibility to surface contaminants such as leaking underground storage tanks, spills, and excess fertilizer application. That rating is a statement about geology — how well the rock above an aquifer shields it — not a test result about what came out of the tap.
And the tap results in that same report were clean. Per the city's 2023 report, nitrate measured below 0.25 ppm, the lead 90th-percentile result was 2.0 ppb, total trihalomethanes came in at 16 ppb, and sodium at 5.8 to 6.9 ppm, with no violations listed on any line.
