The problem

What’s really coming out of your tap?

Most homes deal with all three at once — and you can’t see any of them.

Chlorine & Chemicals

City water is chlorinated to kill bacteria — often more than a swimming pool. It irritates skin, eyes, and lungs, and leaves a taste and smell.

What the standards say →

Hard Water

Dissolved calcium and magnesium leave scale that clogs pipes, shortens the life of water heaters and appliances, and dries out skin and hair.

What the research shows →

Fertilizers & Pesticides

Farm runoff carries nitrate and pesticide residue into the water our cities draw from — and standard treatment isn't built to remove it.

Explore our systems
1

Soften

Salt-based ion exchange removes the calcium and magnesium that cause scale — protecting your pipes, appliances, skin, and hair.

2

Filter

NSF/ANSI 42 certified coconut-shell carbon strips out chlorine, chemicals, tastes, and odors from every tap in the home.

3

Purify

A 7-stage reverse-osmosis system polishes your drinking water and adds healthy minerals back for clean, great-tasting water.

FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

Is Des Moines water actually hard?
Yes, but less than you have probably been told. Des Moines Water Works publishes a target under 150 mg/L — 8.76 grains per gallon. Its own daily plant data in late 2026 averaged about 125 mg/L leaving the plants and 138 mg/L in the distribution system, so roughly 7 to 8 grains reaches your tap. Quotes claiming 15 to 25 grains for Des Moines are describing raw river water, not treated water.
Doesn’t the city already soften it?
It does, and we will not pretend otherwise. The federal treatment record shows lime softening at the Fleur Drive and L.D. McMullen plants and reverse osmosis at Saylorville. What is left is the last seven or eight grains, and that’s what still spots the glassware and scales the water heater.
What does a softener cost in Des Moines?
$2,500 installed, or $2,850 with reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. That is the whole figure — equipment, installation by a licensed local plumbing professional, taxes and a lifetime parts warranty. The instant quote gives you the number in about thirty seconds, before anyone visits.
Can you do anything about the nitrate?
We will not claim that. Nitrate is federally regulated at 10 mg/L and we hold no nitrate performance certification, so we are not going to sell you one on a worry. EPA does list reverse osmosis and ion exchange among the best available technologies for nitrate — that is EPA describing a class of technology, not a promise about our equipment. Central Iowa Water Works runs the metro’s nitrate removal facility and publishes its results every year.
Do you actually serve my suburb?
Yes — West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Waukee, Clive, Johnston, Altoona, Grimes, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Windsor Heights, Bondurant, Indianola and Polk City. Some of those buy the same regional water and a few run their own wells, which changes what your home needs.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — 0% financing is available, so you can enjoy clean water now and pay over time.
