Groundwater systems in Iowa spend their treatment budget on minerals and metals. Surface-water systems spend it on organics, turbidity and disinfection, and Osceola's treatment list reads exactly that way: ferric sulfate and cationic polymer to coagulate suspended material, sand and gravity filtration to catch it, granular activated carbon for taste and odour compounds, then a three-part disinfection approach using chloramines, chlorine dioxide and gaseous chlorine.
That last detail matters for anyone specifying equipment.
