We bring the routine filter set for your model and complete the scheduled filter care. The visit includes water readings and a system check, so you can understand how the equipment is performing and any follow-up it needs.
Then we test your water, and on a yearly visit that reading does a different job than it did the first time we met you. It is a comparison rather than a diagnosis: your numbers now, set beside your own numbers from before, which is how you learn whether your water is drifting and whether the equipment is still keeping up with it. If nobody has ever taken a reading in your house, our free in-home water test can be booked on its own, with nothing attached to it.
Last is the full system check, with the softener and the drinking water system looked over together so the whole setup gets one visit instead of two. Between visits the filters are yours to change if you would rather do it yourself, and our reverse osmosis service page is where that is written down. The rhythm is most of the value here: one date a year, both halves of the setup seen at once, so the softener in the basement is not something you only think about on the day the drinking tap goes wrong.
It is the same visit. Same drive, same test, same look at the softener, same time spent at your sink. The only thing that changes is what comes out of the box: a tankless unit takes a different filter set than a tank unit, and the gap between the two prices is that filter set and nothing else. That is why we ask which unit is under your sink when you book rather than when we arrive—so the number you were quoted is the number you pay. If you genuinely do not know, say so—your install paperwork will name it, and if that has gone missing, a photo of what sits under your kitchen sink settles it in about a minute.
The visit is a fixed piece of work, not a maintenance contract that absorbs whatever else your system does that year. Here is the boundary, written out.

Two of those rows are worth reading twice, because they are the places where people brace for a second bill and do not get one. The first is that a repair and the yearly service never stack. If something needs attention on the day your visit is due, the two do not add together—you pay one charge, so there is no reason to sit on a small problem until the service is over, and no reason to book them weeks apart to keep them separate.
The second is the first-year waiver: on a system we installed, the drive out costs you nothing during that first year. Neither of those is a promotion with an expiry date attached. They are simply how the visit is billed, and they are the same for every household we go to. Both exist for the same reason: we would much rather hear what your system is actually doing than have you plan a phone call around a bill.
A private well gets its own plan: semi-annual well service at $250 a visit, twice a year, well systems only. Six months is not a sales interval dressed up as a schedule. A well build simply has more in it to look at than a city build—an air-injection iron tank standing ahead of the softener, a sediment pre-filter catching grit—and the pieces nearest the well are the ones that load up fastest, so twice a year is when that equipment gets seen. Separately from anything we do at the equipment, a well should have a certified lab check it once a year for coliform bacteria and nitrate, which our sink-side reading does not replace: free well water testing in Iowa is where to start on that.
It is maintenance, and it is none of the following. We would rather be blunt about that now than have you expecting it in the driveway.
Nothing dramatic happens on the anniversary. A softener keeps running on salt whether or not anybody looks at it, so the first thing most households notice is at the drinking tap: the flow slows, then the taste drifts back toward what the water tasted like before the system went in. Skipping a visit does not void anything and none of it is permanent—it is a system asking for the visit it did not get, and it asks quietly.
A regular visit takes filter care, water readings and system checks off your to-do list. The published plan has no automatic renewal or penalty for a year off; each visit is booked separately.

No. There is nothing to sign, nothing that renews on its own, and no penalty for skipping a year. You can book it one year, leave it the next, and book it again after that. Each visit stands alone and is priced the same $199 or $249 either way. We do not put your house on a schedule you would then have to phone up and cancel.
Book it when it suits you. Nothing switches off on the anniversary date and the price does not change because you are late; the filters are simply older than they were meant to be, and the usual sign of that is slower flow or a drift in taste at the drinking tap. The visit still opens with a water test, so you find out what actually changed while you waited rather than guessing at it.
Instead of it. A well system runs on the semi-annual schedule rather than the annual one: $250 a visit, twice a year, well systems only. The $199 and $249 prices are the once-a-year visit for a home on city water, depending on whether the drinking water unit is a tank or a tankless model. If your house is on a private well, plan on two visits a year rather than one.
