Andalusia’s water is not run by the village. Illinois American Water operates the system (PWSID IL1610050) from two wells, and its 2025 water quality report flags a copper action level exceedance: the 90th percentile of tap samples reached 1.35 ppm against an action level of 1.3, with two sites above it. The same report marks copper as no violation, and in 2026 Illinois EPA logged a corrosion-control study item under the Lead and Copper Rule, since returned to compliance.

Illinois EPA’s Drinking Water Watch lists Well 1 with a 1954 activity date and Well 3 with a 1973 date, both active and both feeding one water plant. EPA’s facility record adds a booster station, a 314,000-gallon standpipe in service, and an older distribution standpipe deactivated on April 9, 2025.
The federal treatment inventory is short: two records at the plant, one of them disinfection, and no softening objective. Illinois American Water’s 2025 report says it adds fluoride, measured at 0.81 ppm in an October 7, 2024 sample. The report also says Illinois EPA does not consider the source water susceptible to contamination, based in part on a 1999 Well Site Survey, and that the wells are constructed in a confined aquifer.
An action level exceedance is not an MCL violation. The report explains that copper compliance is achieved when at least 90% of tap samples are below the action level, and that exceeding it triggers treatment or other requirements. In Andalusia’s 2025 round the 90th percentile was 1.35 ppm, individual results ran from 0.137 to 1.682 ppm, and two sites were above the action level. The report lists the likely sources as corrosion of household plumbing and erosion of natural deposits, says Illinois American Water is optimizing treatment and collecting additional samples, and advises flushing a tap that has sat unused for more than six hours before drinking or cooking.
Illinois EPA’s Drinking Water Watch then records a 2026 Lead and Copper Rule violation named “OCCT/SOWT recommendation/study,” in the treatment technique category, running from April 2 to August 20, 2026, when it was marked returned to compliance. It is the only violation on the state record since 2018; before it, the most recent entry in EPA’s federal record dates to 2001. Lead in the same 2025 sampling had a 90th percentile of 3 ppb against a 15 ppb action level, with no sites above it.

Disinfection byproducts sat well under their limits: haloacetic acids at 21 ppb against 60, and total trihalomethanes at 47 ppb against 80. Chlorine came in at 2.2 ppm. The October 2024 inorganic samples show sodium at 23.7 ppm and barium at 0.3 ppm, and the system’s 2024 unregulated-contaminant sampling found lithium at 13.0 ppb.

Illinois American Water’s report covers its own two wells; a private well on a nearby acreage is its owner’s responsibility to test. The Rock Island County Health Department offers water sampling and inspections for existing and new water supplies. Its water testing is available Monday through Wednesday, with fees set by the department’s fee schedule, and it handles Illinois water well permits and well sealing applications.
