Our Price Match and Our Water Guarantee

The short answer

  • Measured before and after: Every job starts with a free in-home test that records hardness in grains per gallon, iron in ppm and total dissolved solids, then re-tests at the same tap afterward.
  • If numbers don't improve: Kind Water Co returns to correct it, and if it cannot, the company removes the system and refunds what you paid for it, with no time limit or restocking fee.
  • Price match terms: A price match needs a dated written quote from a company licensed in the service area, compared total installed price against total installed price, one matched system per household.
  • What cannot match: Rental and lease offers do not price-match against a purchase, and a monthly payment is not a price unless the term length and total come with it.
  • Stated exclusions: The guarantee covers equipment doing the job it was sold to do, not contaminants no system was sold to treat, and not structural well defects like a cracked casing.
  • Upkeep stays yours: A system starved of salt or a UV lamp never replaced has not failed; annual service is $199 a year for a tank RO home and $249 for a tankless one.

Two promises, both in plain language, both with their conditions stated on this page rather than hidden in a contract.

  1. Price match. Bring us a dated written quote from another company for comparable equipment and installation, and we will match it.
  2. The water guarantee. We measure your water before we install. If it does not measure better afterward on those same numbers, we make it right — and if we cannot, we remove the system and refund what you paid for it.

The price match, in full

We already publish every price we charge, which almost nobody in this industry does — Culligan, Kinetico and RainSoft all route pricing through an in-home visit and publish no purchase price. Our numbers are on the cost page and the why-us page. So a price match is not a haggling invitation; it is a promise that you do not have to keep shopping to be sure.

How it works: show us the other quote before you buy. If it is comparable, we match the number. If it is not comparable, we will tell you exactly why rather than quietly declining.

What makes a quote comparable

  • It is written and dated, from a company licensed and operating in our service area. A number someone said out loud is not a quote.
  • Total installed price against total installed price. Ours includes equipment, installation by a licensed plumbing professional, taxes and a lifetime parts warranty. A monthly payment is not a price — if theirs is monthly, we need the term length and the total.
  • Comparable scope. Whole-home against whole-home, point-of-use against point-of-use. An under-sink RO is not a comparison for a whole-home system.
  • Comparable equipment class — a softener against a softener, not a softener against a salt-free conditioner, which does not remove hardness minerals at all.
  • Rental and lease offers do not price-match against a purchase. They are different transactions: one ends with you owning the equipment, the other does not. We will happily walk you through that arithmetic instead.
  • One matched system per household. The $100 military and first-responder discount still applies on top.

The water guarantee, in full

Every job starts with a free in-home test at your kitchen sink, and we write the numbers down: hardness in grains per gallon, iron in ppm, total dissolved solids. That is not a sales ritual — it is the baseline this guarantee is measured against.

The promise: after your system is installed and running, we re-test at the same tap. If those numbers have not improved, we come back and fix it. If we cannot get it right, we remove the system and refund what you paid for it.

How it works in practice

  • We test before, and we test after, at the same tap, for the same measurements.
  • You give us a fair chance to correct it first — adjusting settings, servicing the unit, or reconfiguring the build. Most shortfalls are a setting or a sizing question, not a failure.
  • If we genuinely cannot make the numbers move, we take the system out and refund what you paid for it.
  • No time limit games and no restocking fee.

What the guarantee does not cover — stated up front

A guarantee that pretends to cover everything is worth nothing, so here are its honest edges:

  • It covers the equipment doing the job it was sold to do. A softener is measured on hardness. A reverse osmosis system is measured at the tap it serves. An RO at the kitchen sink was never going to change the water in your shower, and we will have said so before you bought it.
  • It is not a promise about contaminants we did not sell you a system to treat. Where we cite a standard — NSF/ANSI 58 requires at least 75% total dissolved solids reduction to certify — that is a fact about the standard, not a performance number for your house.
  • It does not cover problems outside the plumbing. If a private well has a structural defect — a cracked casing, a failed seal, an unplugged abandoned well nearby — that is a licensed well contractor's job, and no equipment we install is a substitute for fixing it. See our page on bacteria and well integrity.
  • Maintenance still matters. A system starved of salt, or a UV lamp never replaced, is not a system that failed. Our annual service is $199 a year for a tank RO home and $249 for a tankless one, and it includes the filters, a water test and a full system check.

Why we can offer both of these

Because of how we already work, not in spite of it.

We publish our prices, so a price match costs us very little — we are rarely the higher number, and when we are, we would rather match it than lose a customer to a comparison we invited. And we test before we quote, which means we know what your water is doing before anyone signs anything. A company that sells on a demonstration rather than a measurement cannot offer a measured guarantee, because it never established a baseline.

It also helps that we say no. On West Liberty and Atkins city water, where the municipal plants already run reverse osmosis, and in Iowa City and North Liberty, where the plants already soften, we regularly tell people to buy less than they came for — or nothing. Systems that should not have been sold are the ones that generate refund claims.

How to use either one

For the price match, bring the written quote to your free in-home test, or email it to us beforehand. For the guarantee, nothing is required of you at purchase — the baseline test is already part of every job, and it goes on your paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

Will you really match another water softener quote?

Yes, on a dated written quote from a licensed company in our service area for comparable equipment and installation, compared total installed price against total installed price. If a quote is not comparable — a rental against a purchase, or a point-of-use system against a whole-home one — we will tell you exactly why rather than quietly declining.

Does a monthly payment quote count for the price match?

Not on its own. A monthly figure without a stated term is not a price, and several national brands advertise only monthly numbers. Bring us the term length and the total, or the cash purchase price, and we can compare properly. Our prices are already published in full, taxes included.

What exactly does the water guarantee promise?

That your water measures better after installation than it did before, on the same numbers at the same tap — hardness in grains per gallon, iron in ppm, total dissolved solids. If it does not, we correct it. If we cannot correct it, we remove the system and refund what you paid for it.

Is there a time limit on the guarantee?

There is no countdown clock. What we do ask is a fair chance to fix it first, since most shortfalls turn out to be a setting or a sizing question rather than a failure. Ongoing upkeep is still yours: a system starved of salt, or a UV lamp never replaced, has not failed.

What is not covered?

The equipment is measured on the job it was sold to do — an under-sink RO treats that tap, not your shower. It does not cover contaminants we did not sell you a system to treat, and it does not cover structural well problems like a cracked casing or a failed seal, which are a licensed well contractor's work.
