More capacity, same chemistry
The XL provides the same whole-home functions as the standard city-water package, with more nominal softening capacity. Ion-exchange resin removes calcium and magnesium; carbon filtration addresses chlorine taste and odor. We compare measured hardness, daily demand and installation space, then identify the actual equipment configuration and its care in your quote.

The softener removes hardness minerals for less scale and easier cleaning. Whole-home carbon filtration reduces chlorine taste and odor. Add kitchen RO for dedicated drinking-water filtration at the sink. Each stage has its own job, and together they make water more enjoyable throughout your home.

The two XL upgrades worth understanding
The catalytic carbon upgrade is +$225 on an XL and is the option we offer for chloraminated supplies. Standard activated carbon addresses chlorine taste and odor. We review your supply’s disinfection method and choose the media that fits your water.
The dual-tank city upgrade is +$700. Two tanks alternate, so soft water is available around the clock even mid-regeneration and each tank works a lighter duty cycle. We price the combined build in writing after the water test.

The XL build is $2,800 installed, or $3,150 with reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. Both prices are all-in: equipment, installation by a licensed local plumbing professional, sales tax, and our lifetime parts warranty. The catalytic carbon upgrade adds $225 and the dual-tank city upgrade adds $700. Military and first responders take $100 off, and 0% financing is available.
Do I need the XL, or is the standard system enough?
You need the XL if eight or more people live in the house, or if the home has four or more bathrooms. Either trigger alone qualifies. Below that, the standard whole-home system at $2,500, or $2,850 with reverse osmosis, is the right build for most homes, and a softener on its own is $1,900. Our free in-home water test settles it before anyone writes a quote.
Can I put an XL system on a private well?
For a private well, start with our dual-tank well system. We build the treatment plan around your water results and household demand, with options for hardness, iron, sulfur, sediment and tank-style kitchen RO. Packages start at $3,650 without RO or $3,950 with tank RO.
Is the catalytic carbon upgrade worth the extra $225?
Catalytic carbon is the option we offer for chloraminated supplies; the XL upgrade is +$225. For a chlorine-treated supply, standard activated carbon targets chlorine taste and odor. We’ll review your water supply and explain the recommended option.
