Why Kind Water Co

Kind Water Co is a family-owned water treatment company in Marion, Iowa, founded in 2021 by Ryan Brunton. We install water softeners, whole-home filtration, reverse osmosis and well systems across Eastern Iowa. This page is the whole case for using us, stated plainly — no slogans, and nothing we cannot back up.

1. We publish our prices. Almost nobody in this industry does.

We checked in August 2026: Culligan, Kinetico and RainSoft all publish no purchase price. Each routes pricing through an in-home visit. That is a legitimate business model — sizing does require knowing your water — but it means you cannot compare two companies without inviting two salespeople into your living room.

So here is everything we charge. All-in: equipment, installation by a licensed plumbing professional, taxes, and a lifetime parts warranty.

0% financing available. $100 off for military and first responders. Iron and sulfur systems are the one thing we do not price here — they are quoted after a free water test, because iron at 2 ppm and iron at 12 ppm are genuinely different systems.

2. Bundling actually saves you money, and here is the arithmetic

A softener with whole-home filtration is $2,500. A reverse osmosis system on its own is $800. Bought separately that is $3,300. Bought together it is $2,850 — so the bundle saves you $350, because it is one visit, one install, one trip.

We are showing you the subtraction rather than calling it a promotion, because it is not a promotion. It is just how the pricing works, and it will still work that way next month.

3. Taxes are included. The quote is the number.

Every price above includes sales tax. We do not add a percentage at signing. On a $2,850 system that is roughly $192 that does not appear at the end as a surprise — and it is the single most common place a water quote grows between the kitchen table and the invoice.

The other thing that does not change: our price does not expire. There is no discount that vanishes when the salesperson leaves your driveway. If a company's offer is only good today, the number was never real.

4. The warranty, stated in full

• Lifetime warranty on parts.
• Five years on media — the resin and carbon that actually do the work.
• One year on labor.
• Insured and bonded.

Compare that to a phrase like "industry-leading warranty" with no duration attached, which is what one national brand's product page offers. Ask any company for the number of years, in writing, before you sign.

5. Licensed local plumbing professionals do the work

We do not claim to have our own crews and we will not pretend otherwise. Installations are performed by licensed local plumbing professionals we vet, schedule, and stand behind. That is a deliberate choice: a licensed plumber touching your home's plumbing is the right person for the job, and we take responsibility for scheduling them and for the result.

6. What service costs after the sale

Two honest notes. The trip charge is a charge for the drive, not the repair — a warranty-covered part is still free, but the warranty covers the part, not the truck. And we service systems we did not install, as long as parts are obtainable; if it is a discontinued proprietary unit with no parts available, we will tell you that instead of charging a diagnostic to reach the same conclusion.

7. We tell you when you need less — or nothing

This is the part that costs us money, and it is the reason to call us.

• West Liberty has run a municipal reverse osmosis plant since 2017, and the city credits it with reducing the need for individual softeners. We say so on that town's page.
• Atkins built the first plant in Iowa to run 100% reverse osmosis without blending. A softener there is a real question, not a foregone conclusion.
• Dubuque lime-softens to about 100 mg/L and the city's own FAQ says customers do not need to soften further. We agree with them.
• Iowa City softens to roughly 3 grains per gallon at the plant. Many homes there want an $800 RO and nothing else.
• North Liberty has run RO and nanofiltration since 2018 and told residents to reset softeners from 10 grains to 5–6.

And a short list of things we will not sell you, because they are wrong for the water: a tankless RO on a well (high dissolved solids, it loses pressure), a salt-free conditioner on a well (it does not remove hardness minerals), a catalytic carbon upgrade on a well build (it is already inside), or a pre-sediment filter on city water, which rarely needs one because the carbon self-backflushes.

8. We measure before we recommend

The free in-home test takes about ten minutes at your kitchen sink and produces numbers you can write down — hardness in grains per gallon, iron in ppm, total dissolved solids. Those numbers, not a demonstration, are what should drive a purchase. Colour-changing tricks and precipitate demos are theatre, and they are common across this industry.

For private wells, the test that matters most is not ours: the Iowa DNR recommends testing every year for bacteria and nitrate, and Iowa's Private Well Grants program covers free county lab testing through your county environmental health office. We would rather you use that and spend nothing with us than buy equipment you do not need.

9. Real customers, real names

Our reviews page carries real, named reviews from Eastern Iowa customers. It used to carry sample text; we deleted every word of it. A page of invented praise is worse than an empty one.

What we are not going to claim

We started in 2021, so we are not going to tell you we have served ten thousand homes or that we have been doing this since 2005. Our systems are certified to the NSF/ANSI standards. NSF/ANSI 44 is the standard for water softeners, and NSF/ANSI 58 is the standard for reverse osmosis, which requires at least 75% total dissolved solids reduction to certify.

What we will say is that the prices above are real, the warranty is real, and the person who answers the phone is the person whose name is on the company.
