Every well that supplies the Village of Coal Valley is a deep one. Census Vintage 2024 estimates put 3,710 of Coal Valley’s 3,883 residents in Rock Island County and 173 in Henry County. The village water system is recorded under Rock Island County, but the village also posts a second 2025 report, for Oak View Estates. EPA SDWIS lists Oak View Estates (IL0730120) as a separate groundwater system in Henry County serving 95 people through 44 connections, and its report shows a single well. That report lists sodium at 109,000 ppb (October 7, 2024) and combined radium at 2.11 pCi/L (July 18, 2023). If you live in Oak View Estates, that report, not the main Coal Valley report, describes your water.
SDWIS records a plant for each well. The plants for Wells 2 and 3 use slat-tray aeration, pre-chlorination with gaseous chlorine and fluoridation. The plant for Well 5, which the 2025 report places south of the village at Arrowhead Ranch, about 500 feet west of 104th Street and 120th Avenue, uses cascade aeration, post-chlorination with gaseous chlorine and fluoridation. The report lists Well 2 as throttled to 260 gallons per minute and Well 3 at 280.
The other results in the 2025 report: combined radium at 2.62 pCi/L (January 29, 2024) against a limit of 5, gross alpha at 4.52 pCi/L (April 24, 2023) against 15, and fluoride at 0.78 ppm and barium at 0.244 ppm (July 16, 2024), all with no violation.

A private well is not covered by the village’s testing, so the owner decides what to test. On the Rock Island County side, the Rock Island County Health Department offers water sampling and inspections for existing and new water supplies, with water testing Monday through Wednesday and prices on its fee schedule, at (309) 793-1955.
