Kitchen reverse osmosis in Ankeny costs $897 with a storage tank or $997 tankless from Kind Water Co. Installation and tax are included. Ankeny buys its water from Central Iowa Water Works and keeps some of it in two deep wells, #6 and #7, about 2,500 feet down (Iowa DNR). Our Des Moines office is about 10 miles away: 515-709-4674.
Ankeny doesn't treat river water itself. It is one of the 12 founding members of Central Iowa Water Works, which together serve more than 600,000 people (CIWW). EPA's record lists purchase connections from Des Moines Water Works and from CIWW, and EPA's 2023–24 sampling names the two points where that water enters Ankeny's system: 14th St and 26th St.
Des Moines Water Works runs three plants for CIWW. Its 2026 water quality report says:
The report doesn't say how much of each plant's water reaches a given Ankeny street, so we won't guess. Three small systems buy Ankeny's water and share the same supply: the Mel-Ray and Autumn Ridge mobile home parks and Otter Creek Golf (EPA SDWIS).
By the time you fill a glass, the water has been softened at a regional plant, chlorinated and piped across the metro. A kitchen RO is the last step, at your own faucet.
Ankeny saves water underground for busy months. Des Moines Water Works' 2026 report explains how these aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells work: water goes into them in the cold, low-demand months and comes back out in the warm, high-demand months.
Iowa DNR records list three Ankeny ASR wells, all in the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer:
| Ankeny well | Drilled | Depth | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| #4 (ASR #1) | June 1961 | 2,522 feet | Inactive since December 12, 2025 (EPA SDWIS) |
| #6 (ASR #2) | April 2008 | 2,530 feet | Active |
| #7 (ASR #3) | July 2022 | 2,485 feet | Active |
When stored water comes back up, the city adds only chlorine and a pH adjustment with caustic soda at the well (EPA SDWIS). Nothing softens it there.
Stored water brings its own numbers. The 2026 report lists sodium of 23 to 54 mg/L in Ankeny's ASR Wells 4 and 6 (2023–24 samples). A Well #6 sample taken after that chlorine and pH step, dated July 7, 2026, showed 32 mg/L (Iowa DNR records). Saylorville's plant water ranged from 13.76 to 20.63 mg/L in 2025.
Here's why that points to RO. Sodium is one of the dissolved solids counted in TDS, and both of our RO systems are certified to NSF/ANSI 58 for TDS reduction. The mix in Ankeny's pipes can shift with the season. An RO at the sink works on whatever reaches your faucet, all year, and our free screening reads TDS at your own tap.
On Ankeny city water, either system works. Your cabinet and your outlet decide.
| Tank RO | Tankless RO | |
|---|---|---|
| Installed price | $897 | $997 |
| Under the sink | Filter unit plus a 4.8-gallon tank | Compact unit, no storage tank |
| Power | None needed | An outlet under the sink |
| Private well | The only RO we put on a well | City water only |
| Stages | 7, alkaline filter standard | 7, alkaline stage built in |
| Warranty | 1 year | 1 year |
If the only outlet under your sink runs off the disposal switch, a garbage-disposal air switch frees it for $200 by moving the disposal to a button on the counter. With no outlet at all, the tank system is the easy fit. Each unit has its own page: our tank RO system and our tankless RO system.
Acreages around Ankeny are a different case. Iowa DNR's well records list 150 household wells in the township that holds central Ankeny (T80N R24W), with a median depth of 149 feet. A private well gets the tank system only, because a tankless unit loses pressure on well water. With our dual-tank well system, the total is $3,950, or $3,650 without RO. Distance, trenching or rock can raise a well price.
Every install comes with a dedicated drinking-water faucet at the sink. Chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze and brushed gold are included. Any other specialty finish is $200.
Thinking about RO water at the fridge or ice maker? We share two facts first. It can't be done when the sink sits in an island. And even with the fridge close by, about half of refrigerators take the line well and half don't, and nobody can tell which ahead of time. The line is $350 with a tank system or $300 with a tankless system.
Short on cabinet room? Our basement option sets the RO in the basement and runs the water up through the floor to your kitchen faucet. It's $400 with either system. A wall shelf to keep the unit off the basement floor is $100, sold only with the basement option. The basement option and a fridge line together are $500 with either RO.
On install day, the plumbing professional ties the unit into your cold line and drain, sets the faucet, flushes the system and shows you the filter order.
RO filter care is $199 a year if we mail you the filters and you swap them, or $249 a year if we come out, swap them and test your water. Either plan fits a tank or tankless system. A non-warranty service call is $149 for time and labor, plus any parts; calls covered by our warranty are free. If you go ahead with the repair or a new system, the $149 counts toward it. A repair call and an RO filter swap on the same visit are one charge, and each RO system carries a 1-year warranty.
Ankeny was under central Iowa's nitrate lawn-watering bans in June 2025 and again in June 2026 (Central Iowa Water Works, June 2025; Iowa Public Radio, June 2026). Your free in-home water test includes a nitrate screening reading, and we quote whole-home nitrate removal, reverse osmosis or both from there.
The most complete setup is both: whole-home nitrate removal for every faucet, plus reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water.

Our tank system is $897 installed and our tankless system is $997. Tax and a 1-year warranty are included. Both are 7-stage units with an alkaline filter and their own kitchen faucet. Licensed local plumbing professionals we vet, schedule, and stand behind do the install. Add RO to our softener and whole-home carbon system on the same visit, and the total is $2,850 instead of $2,500.
On Ankeny city water, both work, so your cabinet and your outlet decide. The $897 tank system needs floor space for its tank but no power. The $997 tankless system saves space but needs an outlet under the sink. If that outlet runs off the disposal switch, a $200 air switch frees it. Homes on a private well get the tank system only.
RO filter care is $199 a year if we mail you the filters and you swap them, or $249 a year if we come out, swap them and test your water. Either plan works for a tank or tankless system. No, not in a way you can count on. Saylorville softens with ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis and serves residents north of Des Moines. But it is one of three regional plants, and Fleur Drive softens with lime instead (Des Moines Water Works). No one publishes how much of each reaches an Ankeny street. A kitchen RO handles the water at your own faucet.
It can change the mix in warm months. Ankeny stores water in deep wells when demand is low and pumps it back when demand is high (2026 water quality report). The report lists sodium of 23 to 54 mg/L in Ankeny's ASR wells (2023–24), against 11.98 to 53.38 mg/L at the three plants in 2025. A kitchen RO treats whatever reaches your faucet, in any season.
Yes, with our tank system, the only RO we put on a private well. A tankless unit loses pressure on well water. Iowa DNR's well records list 150 household wells in the township that holds central Ankeny (T80N R24W). Paired with our dual-tank well system, the total starts at $3,950, or $3,650 without RO. Distance, trenching or rock can raise a well price.
Yes. We install in 50021 and 50023, the two ZIP codes EPA's records tie to Ankeny's water system. We also serve the acreages around town. EPA's record lists two mobile home parks that buy Ankeny city water, Mel-Ray and Autumn Ridge, so they share the same supply. Call or text 515-709-4674 to book a free screening.
